Jeff Bezos Gives Dolly Parton US$100 Million at "The Courage and Civility Award," Says She Is the 'Messiah of American Music'

Parton, who turned 76 years old last month, is the newest recipient of the award that will be presented on Friday at the Bezos Awards ceremony.

Parton is a philanthropist and generous contributor to the field of medicine. She has donated $1 million to support vaccine research during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The courage and Civility Award is given out by Jeff Bezos in his belief that she has consistently put civility ahead of the result.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library helps children throughout the world access quality reads & improves literacy among disadvantaged communities through grants.

The Courage and Civility Awards "recognize leaders that aim high, find solutions, and always do it with civility," Lauren Sanchez said at the awards ceremony.

Last year, the same award received by Van Jones & José André.  Van worked on transforming mass incarceration and other systems, creating access to the green and digital economies

José Andrés is the chef and humanitarian who won the award for his work. The award will help to advance the charity's efforts of providing healthy food around the world.
